How it works
The NESA grading system, explained
Every subject is graded A (70 to 100%, 6), B (65 to 69%, 5), C (60 to 64%, 4), D (50 to 59%, 3), E (40 to 49%, 2), S (20 to 39%, 1) or F (below 20%, 0). This is the reverse of the old scale, where a lower aggregate was better.
At O level the best nine subjects add up to an aggregate out of 54. At primary the five PLE subjects add up to an aggregate out of 30.
Is a higher aggregate better in Rwanda now?
Yes. Since 2022, A is worth 6 and F 0, so 54 is the best O level aggregate and 30 the best at primary.
What marks are an A?
70% and above. B is 65 to 69%, C 60 to 64% and D 50 to 59%.
How is the O level aggregate counted?
The grade values of the best nine subjects, added up, out of 54.
Is this NESA’s calculator?
No. It is a free tool by Msingi and cannot predict a NESA result.
Msingi does this for every learner
Teachers enter marks once. Grades, aggregate, positions and the report card for a whole class come out, the way Rwanda schools print them.
