How it works

The WAEC grading system, explained

WASSCE grades every subject on nine steps: A1, B2, B3, C4, C5, C6, D7, E8 and F9. A1 to C6 are credits, D7 and E8 are passes, and F9 is a fail. Most universities and employers ask for five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

WAEC sets its own cut-offs for the national examination. The mark ranges here are the ones Nigerian senior secondary schools commonly use on their own report cards, where a subject’s mark is the continuous assessments and the exam added up to 100.

What is a credit in WAEC?

A1 to C6. D7 and E8 are passes, and F9 is a fail.

What marks are an A1?

On school report cards, 75 and above is commonly an A1, 70 to 74 a B2 and 65 to 69 a B3. WAEC does not publish fixed marks for the national examination.

How is a term mark worked out on a Nigerian report card?

Usually two continuous assessments of 20 marks each and an examination of 60, added up to 100. Msingi adds them up that way.

Is this WAEC’s own tool?

No. It is a free tool by Msingi and cannot predict a WAEC result.

Msingi does this for every learner

Teachers enter marks once. Grades, means, positions and the report card for a whole class come out, the way Nigeria schools print them.
