MSCE grading system: MANEB grades and points calculator

Each subject is graded 1 (Distinction) to 9 (Fail). The best six subjects, English always among them, add up to the points; lower is better. Type the marks to work it out.

Marks out of 100

Leave out the subjects the learner does not take. Nothing you type is stored.

How it works

The MSCE grading system, explained

MANEB grades MSCE subjects from 1 to 9: 1 and 2 are distinctions, 3 to 6 credits, 7 and 8 passes, and 9 a fail. Each grade counts as its number.

The points add up the best six subjects with English always among them, so 6 is the best possible. The mark ranges here are the defaults Malawian secondary schools commonly use for their own exams; MANEB sets its own.

How are MSCE points calculated?

Add the grade numbers of English and the best five other subjects. The lower the total, the better.

Does English have to be counted?

Yes. English is always among the six subjects counted.

What grades are a credit?

3 to 6. Grades 1 and 2 are distinctions, 7 and 8 passes and 9 a fail.

Is this MANEB’s calculator?

No. It is a free tool by Msingi and cannot predict a MANEB result.

Msingi does this for every learner

Teachers enter marks once. Grades, points, positions and the report card for a whole class come out, the way Malawi schools print them.
