How it works
The BECE aggregate, explained
BECE grades each subject from 1 (Highest) to 9 (Lowest). The aggregate adds up six grades: the four core subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, and the best two of the rest. The best possible aggregate is 6 and the worst 54; lower is better.
WAEC grades BECE against cut-offs it sets after marking, so the mark ranges here are the defaults Ghanaian junior high schools commonly use for their own exams, where a subject’s mark is the class score and the exam added up.
How is the BECE aggregate calculated?
Add the grades of English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies to the best two grades among the other subjects. Six grade 1s give the best aggregate, 6.
Which subjects always count in BECE?
English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. If one of them is missing there is no aggregate.
What is a good BECE aggregate?
The lower the better. Senior high schools set their own cut-off aggregates for admission each year.
Is this WAEC’s calculator?
No. It is a free tool by Msingi and cannot predict a WAEC result.
Msingi does this for every learner
Teachers enter marks once. Grades, aggregate, positions and the report card for a whole class come out, the way Ghana schools print them.
