How a Basotho school runs on Msingi

Schools in Lesotho run from Grade 1 to Grade 12 on a January year: primary from Grade 1 to 7, high school from Grade 8 to 12. Msingi sets up a primary school, a high school, or a school that has both, with every class named the way Basotho schools name them.

The Examinations Council of Lesotho’s 2026 timetable lists three national examinations: the PSLE at the end of Grade 7, the Junior Certificate at the end of Grade 10 and LGCSE at the end of Grade 12. Msingi keeps each learner’s ECoL candidate number, and has a trial examination for Grades 7, 10 and 12, so mock results sit beside the term’s tests on the report card.

ECoL reports LGCSE in letters, A to G and U, but does not publish the percentage behind each letter. Msingi starts from 80% for an A, 70% for a B and so on down to 20% for a G, and a school changes any boundary in Settings so its report cards match the marks its teachers already give.

Fees are in maloti, with numbered receipts and a list of who still owes. Teachers are recorded with their TSD number and whether the post is government, church or school-paid.

Questions schools ask

Msingi in Lesotho: questions

Does Msingi grade LGCSE?

Yes. Grades 8 to 12 are graded A to G and U, the letters ECoL reports, with percentage boundaries your school can set.

Are the PSLE and Junior Certificate still in?

Yes. ECoL’s 2026 timetable still lists both, so Msingi keeps Grade 7 and Grade 10 as examination years, with a trial examination before each.

Which subjects are set up?

Primary starts with Sesotho, English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Creativity and Entrepreneurship, Personal, Spiritual and Social, and Health and Physical Education. High school adds the LGCSE options, from Biology and Physical Science to Accounting and Computer Studies. Every subject can be renamed, added or removed.

How are primary report cards graded?

A to E by default: A from 80%, B from 70%, C from 55%, D from 40%, and E below that. These are starting points, not an official scale, so change them to the ones your school uses.

Does it need the internet?

No. Msingi runs on the school’s own computer. The internet is only needed for updates, off-site backups and the optional cloud version.
